What To Do When Your Lease Ends

At Shaker's Family Ford, we do our business transparently. This way of doing business stems from our desire to help all our customers from the greater Waterbury area, including Watertown, Bristol, Southington, New Milford, and Naugatuck figure out all their options. We've been doing business transparently since our original Waterbury, Connecticut dealership opened eight decades ago. And we operate the same way today, no matter whether you're visiting us for the first time or the fifth time, and regardless of whether you're servicing your car, financing a new or used car, or returning or trading in a car.

We're Here for Our Customers When A Lease Ends

We know that when a lease ends, there is sometimes uncertainty about what the responsibility of a lessee is regarding preparing a leased vehicle for turn-in. You may be wondering what to do if you have a dent or ding. Or maybe your car has a minor spill. Here at Shaker's Family Ford, located at 831 Straits Turnpike in Watertown, Connecticut, we're here to help you through each step of the car life cycle. That's as true when you are trying to figure out how to best prepare your current vehicle for lease turn-in as it is when you're trying to determine which Ford model is right for your unique needs. If you have any questions - even if you think they may be silly - do not hesitate to reach out to us at (888) 459-0251. We are more than happy to help.

Steps to Take When Turning In A Leased Ford

You have three options when your lease ends. 1) Turn in your car. 2) Buy or lease a brand new car. 3) Purchase your car. For more details about the terms and conditions of your particular lease, refer to your lease agreement. If you need help navigating the terms of your agreement, feel free to contact us, and we're happy to go through them with you.

Not sure what your best option is? Check out our leasing versus financing page. If you do decide to finance a new car, be sure to visit our Finance Center. To help you further decide what your best course of action is following a lease, here is a transparent list of steps to take when you're getting ready to turn in your leased Ford vehicle:

  1. Call us at (888) 459-0251 and set up a day to talk about your options and/or turn in your car.
  2. Check your vehicle for excess wear and tear like large dents, rips in fabric, or overly worn tires. Your lease agreement will have more details about what exactly constitutes excess wear and tear. Don't worry too much about minor dents or spills. Once you've figured out if your car has excess wear and tear, you can either fix it or pay a penalty to return your car in as-is condition.
  3. Empty your car out, making sure to keep all items that came standard, like floor mats and key fobs.
  4. Bring your car back to us here at the dealership. If you're not using your license plates again, remember to surrender your license plate(s) to the local Department of Motor Vehicles!
