About Us
About Shaker's Family Ford
For nearly a century, Shaker's Family Ford has been dedicated to serving drivers and families with honesty, hard work, and a commitment to doing things the right way. What began as a small service station in Waterbury has grown into a trusted Ford dealership that has helped generations of customers find, maintain, and enjoy their vehicles.
While much has changed since the business first opened its doors in 1932, the values that built Shaker's Family Ford remain the same today. As a third-generation family-owned dealership, we continue to focus on providing exceptional customer care, supporting our community, and creating a welcoming experience for every person who visits us.
Our Story
The story of Shaker's Family Ford began in 1932 when Joseph Shaker, a Lebanese immigrant, opened a service station in Waterbury. Through hard work, determination, and a dedication to treating customers fairly, he established a reputation that would become the foundation of the family business.
As the company grew, it evolved into Shaker's Auto Maintenance in 1941. Just a few years later, in 1947, the business expanded into new and used vehicle sales, helping local drivers find reliable transportation while continuing to provide quality automotive service. Our commitment to our customers quickly earned the local community's trust and laid the groundwork for future growth.
In 1956, our family business reached an important milestone by becoming an official Ford franchise. This partnership allowed us to offer one of America's most recognized automotive brands while continuing to deliver the personal service that customers had come to expect.
Like many long-standing businesses, Shaker's Family Ford has faced its share of challenges. We survived the devastating flood of 1955 and later rebuilt after the original dealership was destroyed by fire in 1976. Through every obstacle, the Shaker family has remained committed to serving our customers and supporting the community that has supported us for decades.
Today, Shaker's Family Ford remains family-owned and operated, now in its third generation of leadership. Current CEO Joe Shaker became dealer principal at just 24 years old, continuing a family tradition built on perseverance, innovation, and customer care.
Our dealership's commitment to growth was further demonstrated in 2013 with the opening of a modern Ford facility designed to better serve customers. Featuring more than 20 service lifts, including equipment capable of handling heavy-duty trucks and commercial vehicles, our facility reflects our ongoing investment in the future while honoring our proud past.
What Makes Us Different
At Shaker's Family Ford, being family-owned is more than a business distinction—it's a philosophy that influences everything we do. For three generations, we've worked to build lasting relationships with our customers by providing personalized service, honest guidance, and a dealership experience centered around people.
We're also proud to be a dealership that truly welcomes families. Vehicle shopping often involves the entire household, which is why we offer a dedicated children's play area where younger visitors can stay entertained while parents explore our inventory, discuss financing options, or meet with our team. Creating a comfortable environment for families has always been an important part of who we are.
That same focus on customer comfort extends to our service department. While your vehicle is being maintained or repaired, you can relax in our fully furnished waiting area featuring comfortable couches, a widescreen television, and complimentary refreshments. We believe every visit should be as convenient and enjoyable as possible.
Our dedication to both customers and the community has earned recognition beyond the automotive industry. In 2021, the Shaker Family received the Brass Button Award from the Mattatuck Museum, an honor that reflects our long-standing contributions to the local community.
Combined with our modern facility, extensive Ford expertise, and commitment to customer satisfaction, these qualities continue to set Shaker's Family Ford apart.
Looking Ahead
From a small Waterbury service station founded in 1932 to the modern Ford dealership we are today, Shaker's Family Ford has remained focused on serving customers with integrity and care. Our history is one of resilience, growth, perseverance, and dedication to the people and communities we serve.
As we look to the future, we remain committed to the same family values that have guided us for generations. Whether you're shopping for your next vehicle, bringing your Ford in for service, or visiting us for the first time, we look forward to welcoming you to the Shaker's Family Ford family.
